Usually you can buy them with or without a tin box. But I think the tins are so nice that they make for a perfect souvenir gift (it is what I usually get, and everyone seems to love them).
If you happen to be in Amsterdam then you must taste the real deal. Usually I find them at the Albert Cuyp market. This stand is located in the middle of the market - simply look for the sign below.
The stroopwafels that are already packaged are quite good and they keep really well (if they even last you that long), but if you are in Amsterdam then you must experience the fresh ones, they are simply amazing!
