Unfinished Projects

Unfinished crafts and projects rack me up with a certain type of guilt, that sometimes it is quite suffocating. I can hear the half way knitted scarf calling my name in the middle of the night (and no, it doesn't sound like that Billy Joel song). It is more like a shouting, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FINISH ME???

This scarf is almost finished, but I stopped in the year 2005. I don't even like that color combination any more, or anything for that matter. Usually, I'm quite good of getting rid of things, but apparently not of this.

Or this. A rectangle, that was supposed to be a vest for my first son (he is 11 now). If I would have finished this, my little one would be wearing it right now. But the ifs, would haves etc... don't really count, or do they? Not my favorite color either!!

And now for the year 2013, is my quilting project. It is still not an unfinished work, but I'm very afraid it will end up like the above. I'm finding a million excuses not to continue this, but then I start to think I'm halfway through (make that 63.5% done). There is still lots to be done, but I know the finished project will be worth it (that's another thing I keep telling myself), and like my quilting teacher says, "FOCUS."

I hope I'm not the only one with unfinished projects in closets or boxes. But how do you deal with them, is what I would like to know? Do they get to you? Do you simply move forward to the next?
Pay someone to finish it? Take it out of the box and finish it??

Wishing you a most excellent Monday!

  1. Maybe you can organize an exchange of unfinished projects with your craft group? Because your unfinished work may inspire others. The above scarf looks so soft!

    1. An exchange sounds like a wonderful idea! And yes , the above scarf is very soft, not itchy at all!

    2. great! I like that :) I often see these super soft looking scarfs (and cardigans) which contain wool... too itchy for me unfortunately :(

  2. Oh oh.... that sounds quite familiar. I have these crochet pillows... Still planning on finishing though!! Only the crochet-squares-part is much more fun than the working-threads-in-and-put-the-squares-together-part. Although i know that's only the case in my mind. When i pick it up (as i did with a skirt) the working in an putting together turns out to be not as bad as i thought.
oh. And now that i'm going through my stuff... guess it's not only about "some crochet pillows"... erhm... o_0

    1. I also don't like the part will all those threads, it is so fun until that part! haha, so not only unfinished crochet pillows? Maybe one of these days you'll finish them and they'll look awesome in your living room!

  4. I know the feeling. I think we all do. Ha! Thankfully I move a lot and use it as an excuse to scrap most of the projects I'm not excited about anymore. But I have a sweater I started in 2006 that I'm so not interested in anymore, but I just can't seem to give up on. I love the idea of an exchange though!

    1. Funny not be able to let go of something so simple? Maybe that is the reason we keep them? They don't take much space, so we're like; this won't be too much! Want to do an exchange??
