Oh I love the food I get to eat when I'm visiting Cali! Delicacies I don't get to eat anywhere else! Because it is a very long list, I had to choose my most favorite of all. Like Guayaba Manzana which translates to a marriage between guava and apple; green mango; chontaduro: its a creamy fruit from a palm tree; aborrajado: sweet plantain with cheese, fried in batter; cholado: shaved ice with fresh fruit and condensed milk; pandebono: cheese bread balls and last (but not least) green plantain that is mashed and double fried and tostadas are born. Oh I'm in heaven!
I wish my sister was here because I know how much she loves all these delicious food!
Is there any food in particular you miss the most from home?
I hope I've left you with lots of cravings!
Giannina.
Thank you gianni, pure torture!
ReplyDeleteYummy!
ReplyDeleteActually there's not a lot of food from home that I miss (you can get almost anything here in France too). One thing maybe: a simple Dutch cheese sandwich :p Mostly because the bread here is very different.
Tell me, those palm tree seeds look like the ones that I peel & put in the ground to grow a palm tree. Never thought of eating the "flesh". What does it taste like?
Yes, the bread is heavenly here! Do you want me to send you some? And about the palm tree seeds, I really doubt they are the same as this is a palm tree that only grows in Colombia, it is full of long thorns. The seeds also have to be cooked for a really long time. It tastes like heaven for us, but I'm not sure how visitors react to the taste! Can't quite compare it to anything really!
DeleteNADA NUNCA LOGRA LOS SABORES DE LA TIERRA!!!! Se hace el intento, cerramos los ojos y tratamos.......
ReplyDeleteNoooo esto es "TENAZ". Los colores, los sabores, los "sonidos". Los rituales de preparacion....... en fin.
Que sabroso y que lindo. GRACIAS!!!!
Yum these make me hungry! I live in Sicily but currently we're home in Virginia visiting my family. My mom is an amazing cook and I'm loving every bite she puts on the table, especially a lot of delicious fall-flavored soups, like pumpkin and squash, or beef and farrow. It makes a rainy day like today just perfect!
ReplyDeleteSuper yummm, one of my favorite foods is pumpkin soup! Enjoy, I'm sure it is delicious, and even if you make it in Italy, it just doesn't taste the same right?
DeleteOh yum. It all looks delicious. I used to crave food from back home much more but after 12 years I've managed to either make it all from scratch or replace it with something else. But I do love having good NS seafood when I'm back home. That you can't get over here for sure!
ReplyDeleteWe do have to learn how to live without certain things, that is for sure. But for some reason when I buy plantains and make them home it just doesn't taste like the ones from home. Maybe it is all that time these fruits spend on boats and trucks, they are just plenty bored when they reach our plates!
DeleteQue rico... pero el chontaduro, lo prefiero con con sal y miel.
