Crafting a Rubber Stamp

As part of the AIRHEADS Valentine's contest I decided to give this craft a try. I have been meaning to try my hand at making my own rubber stamps for awhile now, especially after seeing my blogging friend Puk's creations!
In art school I tried doing linocuts and woodcuts to no excitement whatsoever on my part. So I was a bit hesitant at first, about rubber stamps. But it ended up being a simple, easy and the most fun I had with my older son doing a craft. Besides, the cherry flavored AIRHEADS is his favorite candy, so it was a good incentive.

 You need: An eraser, a block printing cutter, precision knife, pencil, and an ink pad.

Use the pencil to draw the design you want on a piece of paper, in this case we wanted to make the balloon from the AIRHEADS logo, place it upside down on the eraser and transfer it by painting on the back of the drawing with the pencil, finally start carving. Always taking in consideration that there is a positive and negative side of the image.

We decided to make both just to see which one looked better (I liked the underlined one and he preferred the filled one better). Then, just stamp to your hearts content.

Put the stamps on tags for Valentine's gifts, stationery, envelopes, and you can even use textile paint to stamp your T-shirts!
